In addition to composing and playing, I’ve been teaching guitar to students ranging in age from 5 through adult from western North and upstate South Carolina since the mid-1980’s.
I have been an adjunct faculty member of the University of North Carolina at Asheville since 1987 and at Clemson University since 1994.
Teaching children through the world-wide acclaimed ‘Suzuki’ method is especially rewarding. I have the only Suzuki Guitar Studio in western   North Carolina.
Suzuki is based on the "mother-tongue" technique — meaning the student learns by listening first, while reading music comes later.
Children are great learners and can play with all the nuance and skill needed to play classical music if they are lead there in small steps.
Having your children study music is not just about training them to be musicians, it's about learning to love learning — which, of course, is a great life-long skill to acquire early.
